I am Seo Jeong-sun, president of the Korea Biotechnology Industry Organization (KBIO).

I truly congratulate the first release of the Korea Biomedical Business Review (KBR), Korea’s first English newspaper specializing in bio medical business.

According to the survey of the current state of Korean bio industry, jointly conducted by KBIO and Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy, the production of the Korean bio industry amounted to 8 trillion won in 2015, an increase of 460.7 billion won, or 11.2 percent, from the previous year. Export totaled 4 trillion won, up 251.3 billion won, or 24.8 percent, thanks in part to the brisk shipments of bio medical and bio food products.

It is encouraging for the bio sector to produce such a good result amid the difficult economic times, attracting investment as a future growth engine.

KBIO has contributed to attracting investment and looked for the best companies, in cooperation with the government. Not to be omitted in the process has been the media’s assistance to introducing major businesses to the world based on balanced reporting and advancing industrialization.

The bio healthcare field is also at the center of the new global trend of the fourth industrial revolution. If the Korean bio industry can take the lead in this direction, it is important to actively publicize its capability and technology abroad and secure various opportunities for business models.

Therefore, I expect that KBR will play a meaningful role in delivering various domestic news stories to foreign countries based on fair and rational reporting.

KBIO will try to take the lead in encouraging businesses and solving difficulties to help them create revenue and jobs in the bio industry. It will also closely cooperate with the government to train people specialized in big data of the bio health area in preparation for the fourth industrial revolution.

I hope, and believe, KBR will make valuable cooperation for the globalization of K-bio.
