The Ewha Womans University Medical Center (EUMC) said Thursday it has installed the nation’s first fine-dust signal lamp, with the cooperation from Yangcheon District Office.

The signal lamp is part of countermeasures to reduce fine dust, which has emerged as a serious environmental and social problem, the hospital said.

Jung Hye-won (left), director of Ewha Womans University Mokdong Hospital, and Kim Soo-young, head of Yangcheon District Office, stand in front of the nation’s first fine-dust signal lamp.

The lamp is expected to contribute to the prevention of respiratory diseases by transmitting information by the color of traffic lights, as it is easy to understand for residents not familiar with the information on fine dust concentration on the Internet, it added.

It will show the concentration of fine dust in lights such as blue (good), green (normal), yellow (bad), and red (terrible).

"As a university hospital responsible for the health of residents, we have felt the need to help them recognize the fine dust concentration through the fine-dust signal lamp, and actively practice the micro dust countermeasures, such as wearing a mask when going out," said Jung Hye-won정혜원, director of Ewha Womans University Mokdong Hospital이대목동병원.
