Hello, my name is Chung Chin-youb, minister of health and welfare.

I truly congratulate the first issue of the “Korea Biomedical Review,” Korea’s first English newspaper specializing in the healthcare field.

Despite economic slump across the world, the nation’s healthcare industry has been growing steadily. Based on skilled medical workforce and excellent technology, export totaled $9.8billion last year, up nearly 20 percent from 2015. I expect the industry to take another leap this year.

The accomplishment has resulted from close cooperation from specialized media outlets for the sector’s development through their reasonable and fair media coverage, including the suggestion of various political alternatives, as well as efforts by the government and related institutions.

Recently, the field has been rapidly changing, as seen by the advent of new medical technology, development of artificial intelligence and integration with ICT. Accordingly, it is time for the sector to come up with more positive and active responses.

Under the situation, KBR is expected to serve as a medium which not only satisfies people’s rights to know but also plays a significant role in conveying various opinions from foreign countries to the domestic audience.

The ministry will spare no efforts in making investments into areas preparing for the future, such as precision and regenerative medicine. The investment will enable Korea to become a global leader in the healthcare field. I hope KBR joins the effort to develop Korean healthcare industry with critical viewpoints and sufficient information.

I congratulate the first publication of KBR again.
