Intuitive Surgical, a global leader in minimally invasive surgery using robots, has received an import license from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety식품의약품안전처 (MFDS) for its newly launched da Vinci X surgery system, the company said Tuesday.

Through the da Vinci X system, medical staff can take advantage of advanced innovative robot surgery techniques and exclusive programs, customer support, services, and solutions, commonly known as the da Vinci ecosystem, it said.

The da Vinci X surgical system is optimized for surgery performed on specific quadrants in the abdomen such as prostatectomy, partial nephrectomy, hysterectomy, and sacroiliac fixation. The latest model is compatible with the advanced robot equipment with a high point that the robot arm can be placed in various ways to match the patient's body conditions during surgery.

The system also has 3D digital optics, voice and laser guide function, and integrated lightweight endoscopy, improving the efficiency of the preparation process by simplifying the draping process to prevent infection during surgery.

Patient carts are designed to accommodate Intuitive Surgical's flagship product, the fourth-generation da Vinci Xi surgical system, in the patient cart design of the existing third-generation da Vinci Si system.

"Korean medical institutions are at different stages of development in robot surgery. Some hospitals have just introduced robotic surgery to provide patients with an option for new treatments, and others are looking to expand already successfully introduced robotic surgery programs to more diverse surgeries,” said Sohn Seung-swan손승완, CEO of Intuitive Surgical Korea. “Intuitive Surgical is committed to meeting the needs of a broader range of customers in economic and clinical terms, and the da Vinci X system will help."
