Largest medical equipment fair to run at COEX for 4 days

The 33rd International Korea International Medical & Hospital Equipment Show (“KIMES 2017”) will kick off at the COEX Exhibition Hall (COEX) for a four-day run, organizers said Monday.

Under the slogan of "Smarter, Easier, Healthier," the show will draw 579 makers from 41 countries, including the United States, China, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom, and Taiwan, to exhibit some 30,000 medical, hospital and rehabilitation equipment, medical information systems and other related goods.

Among major participants in the nation’s largest exhibition of this kind are Samsung Electronics, SG Healthcare, Philips, Toshiba Medical, Fuji Film, Medien International, and GE Healthcare.

It also will unveil robotic medical devices that have received attention worldwide. Domestic and overseas manufacturers will display a broad range of robotic equipment, including medicinal sterilized robots, artificial joint surgery robots, walk-assisting robots and robot rehabilitation systems.

The organizers will also hold 15 seminars to share information about 3D printing technology and their use in the medical field.

These officials expect the show will attract more than 76,000 Korean and over 3,500 foreign buyers from 80 some countries. The display will also be likely to result in 1.9 trillion won ($1.67 billion) worth of purchasing consultations and $560 million worth of export negotiations, contributing significantly to substituting imports.

The KIMES secretariat will operate "free foreigners interpreter center" at the entrance of each exhibition hall as well as shuttle buses from major railway stations to the COEX.

It will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. throughout the period, for medical workers from provinces. Entrance fee is 10,000 won, but free admission is available on KIMES website by pre-registration until March 15.
