The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) said Tuesday that it has ordered a recall on WIP Management’s NEWA LIFT Activator Gel, a wrinkle treatment, after finding traces of N-nitrosodiethanolamine (NDELA), a cancer-prone.

WIP Management imports the product from its original developer EndyMed Medical, an Israeli company.

The World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) classifies NDELA as a human carcinogen 2B. The amount detected in the gel was 126 microgram/kilogram.

The ministry urged consumers who bought the product to stop using it immediately and return it to the importer or the place of purchase. However, the ministry exempted the high-frequency device used along with the gel.

Regulators also plan to take administrative measures against the WIP Management as the company had information regarding the substance with carcinogenic concern beforehand but did not make any actions to recall the product.

EndyMed Medical had previously posted that it would be replacing all the current Activator gels out in the market with a new gel, on their website.
