The Korea Medical Devices Industrial Cooperation Association (KMDICA) said Monday that 10 domestic medical equipment makers attended the 2018 Western Veterinary Conference (WVC) held at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, U.S.

According to KMDICA, it was the only association to establish a national section. Companies such as La Meditech, Eco-ray, Empecs Medical and Cheil Medical Corporation displayed their products during the conference.

Equipment unveiled at the fair included La Meditech's medical laser devices, which can treat animal skin diseases such as atopy, eczema and ear inflammation, and Cheil Medical Corporation’s animal bone bonding plate system, suitable for small animals.

The association has participated in the WVC since 2008. Unlike medical devices, animal medical devices can enter the U.S. market without approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

“Although American companies show strength for animal veterinary equipment, the U.S. in-vitro diagnostic devices, and rapid diagnosis are limited,” the KMDICA said in a statement. “This led to a strong interest in various devices at the Korea section, which prides itself on superior technology in such fields.”

The WVC, which held its 90th conference, is one of the largest veterinary fairs in the U.S. More than 14,000 veterinarians, animal medical device vendors and related officials participated in this year’s conference.
