Seoul National University Bundang Hospital (SNUBH) and AhnLab have signed a memorandum of understanding to research digital healthcare, the hospital said Tuesday.

Under the agreement, The two companies plan to research various fields such as the digital healthcare and medical Internet of Things while also performing all-around cooperative research including investment, technology development, contents supply and service development.

The MOU will focus on seven key areas such as the development and implementation of a blockchain-based digital healthcare system, protecting personal information in regards to personal health information, researching medical IoT device security, cooperating on user healthcare services and strengthening their partnership, marketing and existing platforms.

SNUBH expects that its cooperation with AhnLab, which has global competitiveness in global-level security technology and software development capability, will generate significant synergy in future medical research along with the hospital’s success in healthcare IT.

“The agreement is the starting point for Korea in becoming a ‘global leader’ in the healthcare market, one of the largest industries in the world, by strengthening the merits of both companies, while cooperating on our shortcomings,” SNUBH President and CEO Jheon Sang-hoon said. “We will do our best to create national wealth through healthcare.”

AhnLab also seemed enthusiastic about the newly signed accord.

“Healthcare is an important area that is directly linked to a patient’s health,” AhnLab CEO Kwon Chi-jung said. “With this MOU, AhnLab, a specialist in security software, will continue its research for developing new healthcare service with SNUBH.”
