GSK Consumer Healthcare (CH) said Wednesday that it has unveiled new versions of cold medicine Theraflu Cold and Cough (ingredient: dextromethorphan) in the local market.

Theraflu is a powdered over-the-counter medicine that patients can add to warm water before drinking. The medication’s liquid form allows patients to absorb the drug faster than conventional pill formulation.

According to the company, dextromethorphan, the medication’s main ingredient, is a cough suppressant. At the same time, the substance can help reduce the spread of the cold virus through air, which the company expects will help alleviate the discomfort felt by patients in public places.

The company added new flavors to both medications for nighttime and daytime to allow patients to choose their medicine depending on their preferences.

While previous Theraflu lineups come in lemon flavor, Theraflu Cold and Cough Daytime contains natural berry flavor, while Theraflu Cold and Cough Nighttime contain honey lemon flavor.

"To effectively manage cold symptoms, the company recommends patients to take Theraflu Cold and Cough Daytime and Nighttime sequentially,” said Yoo Jin-wook, Theraflu brand manager for GSK CH.
