Asan Medical Center (AMC) ranked top among 97 local hospitals in Korea, a report showed Thursday.

According to Newsweek, a U.S. weekly news magazine, AMC ranked first with a score of 93.1 points, followed by Samsung Medical Center (92.8), Seoul National University Hospital (92.4), Severance Hospital (90.4) and Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital (90).

For the evaluation, Newsweek commissioned Statista, a German market research institute, which evaluated the hospitals by recommendations from medical professionals, patient survey results and medical performance indicators.

“For the recommendations, Statista collaborated with GeoBlue and invited tens of thousands of doctors, hospital managers and other healthcare professionals to an online survey,” Newsweek said.

Aside from the big five hospitals, Ajou University Hospital in Suwon ranked sixth with a score of 89.7, surpassing other private hospitals in the metropolitan area.

Large Korean hospitals managed to achieve high scores, but none of them made it on the magazine’s top 10 global hospitals.

U.S. Hospitals made substantial presences on the list with Mayo Clinic Rochester nominated as the world’s best hospital with a score of 98.9. Other renowned U.S. hospitals in the top 10 global hospitals included Cleveland Clinic (97.4), Johns Hopkins Hospital (96.7) and Massachusetts General Hospital (96.5).

The Singapore General Hospital ranked top among hospitals outside of the United States with a score of 98. The hospital ranked third in the top 10 global hospital list.

The entire survey is on the Newsweek site.
