A convenience store chain in Korea started selling a diagnostic kit that can detect cervical cancer.

BioLeaders Group said it has formed a strategic partnership with GS Retail to sell GynPad, a diagnostic kit for testing cervical cancer, at GS25 convenience stores. The items will be available across the nation from May 30, the company said.

Under the partnership, the two companies will cooperate from product development to sales and distribution.

GynPad is a sanitation pad-type self-sampling kit for human papillomavirus (HPV) screening, developed by TCM Biosciences, a firm affiliated with BioLeaders. After wearing it for about four hours, the user can put the special filter in a sample bottle and send it to TCM Lab, indicated on the product.

The test results at TCM Lab will be sent to an affiliated hospital, which will notify the outcome to the user. More than 400 medical institutions are collaborating with TCM Biosciences. The user will get the result from the closest hospital. The user can learn the result of the HPV infection, which causes cervical cancer, within three days after sending the sample.

BioLeaders said the screening pad had 98 percent accuracy, identical to the testing through a hospital visit.

“To sell it directly to consumers, we opened our online site (GynPad Mall). We also collaborated with GS Retail to help users purchase it easily at convenience stores,” BioLeaders said. “We will expand joint promotion items into cosmetics and health functional foods.”
