A Korean hospital information system called “Best Care 2.0B,” developed by a consortium of Seoul National University Bundang Hospital (SNUBH) and EZCareTech, is operating smoothly in U.S. medical institutions.
The consortium said it recently completed building the Best Care 2.0B at the Aurora Behavioral Healthcare (https://www.auroraarizona.com) in Glendale, Ariz.
The recent establishment was a part of the consortium’s project to install the hospital information system in Aurora Behavioral Healthcare’s 14 hospitals. The consortium launched the system in Aurora Charter Oak Hospital in California in August 2017, Reno Psychiatric Hospital in Nevada in June 2018, and Aurora Vista Del Mar Hospital in California in October 2018.
The Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS), a Medicaid program in Arizona, has operated health information exchange (HIE) for hospitals since 2017. AHCCCS is expected to enact the Differential Adjusted Payment law in July for the next five years to pay different reimbursements to medical institutions depending on their assessment results.
Aurora Behavioral Healthcare introduced Best Care 2.0B to check patient records chronologically, establish effective treatment plans, and promote patient safety and cure.
The consortium developed the system so that the hospital in Glendale can link patient information, test results, records, medication history, and other data to Health Current, an institution managing medical information exchange. The hospital in Glendale became the first mental health hospital to benefit from the information exchange incentive program.
The hospital in Glendale will receive 3 percent of Medicaid premiums, incurred in the past year, for the next five years.
“The federal legislation to provide the electronic medical record (EMR) incentives for psychiatric hospitals passed the House and Senate in June 2018,” SNUBH President Baek Rong-min said. “Since the Arizona state’s EMR incentive system is to be implemented in July 2019, the consortium anticipates for market expansion.”
“Institutional and environmental changes -- such as the convenience of the JCI (Joint Commission International) certification for U.S. psychiatric hospitals, the excellence solutions and the introduction of incentives -- are expected to be a positive factor for our business in the U.S.,” said Hwang Hee, chief information officer at SNUBH. “We are discussing deals with several psychiatric hospitals and general hospitals in Arizona.”
