Seoul National University Hospital (SNUH) has signed an agreement with King Abdullah International Medical Research Center (KAIMRC), a Saudi medical institute, to train researchers for clinical trials.

Seoul National University Hospital President and CEO Kim Yon-su (second from right) shakes hands with King Abdullah International Medical Research Center CEO Bandar Al Knawy after signing the training agreement at the Four Seasons Hotel Seoul on June 26.

The signing took place during the "Korea-Saudi Arabia Partnership Convention," sponsored by the Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority, on June 26.

Under the agreement, SNUH will train Korea's advanced clinical testing capability to about 80 KAIMRC clinical trial personnel for two years.

"In particular, the agreement is more meaningful as it is in accordance with Saudi's "VISION 2030," the Arab nation's goal to expand its crude-dependent economic structure to healthcare and IT," the hospital said in a press release. "The signing ceremony was held during Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's visit to South Korea."

SNUH's Clinical Center Director Jang In-jin said, "The agreement is an example of Korea's ability to perform clinical trials in the global market and will serve as an opportunity to improve the capabilities of the pharmaceutical and bio-industry not only on the local level but also internationally."
