Noom Korea said that that it would conduct joint research with the National Cancer Center (NCC) to provide total healthcare for cancer patients.

NCC President Lee Eun-sook (third from right) and Noom Korea general manager Kim Young-in agreed on joint research at the National Cancer Center in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, on Tuesday.

The collaboration will allow them to carry out community-based, full-scale, total healthcare research projects that integrate the treatment, welfare, and self-care of cancer patients, the company said.

Noom will take part in clinical research as a participant and convert developed protocols into services while managing an app-based human coaching system.

NCC will be responsible for providing nutrition and life improvement options tailored to specific cancers and stages. The state-run institution will also develop a human coaching program protocol and conduct app-based clinical research.

It also plans to develop and supply tailored nutrition, life improvement options, and human coaching programs for breast, stomach, colon cancer patients.

The two parties will conduct the study until 2021.

"The joint research aims to treat cancer patients' health effectively at all stages, including cancer treatment and post-treatment," said Professor Jeong So-yeon, head of NCC's Cancer Survivor Integration Support Center. "We will do our best to produce good results from the joint research and directly contribute to improving the lives of cancer patients."

Noom Korea General Manager Kim Young-in said, "The company is pleased to begin meaningful research with NCC. We will use our know-how accumulated in the field of mobile behavior change to improve the quality of life of cancer patients."
