Eulji Medical Center (EMC) said Wednesday that it would provide invitation and dispatch training for the medical workers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) hospital in Bangladesh for the next three years.

The project is the first time for a regional hospital to carry out a comprehensive education and training to transfer its medical expertise to other countries.

EMC, along with Eulji University, became the consulting managers of the BSMMU- affiliated hospital construction project, one of the official development aid projects conducted by the Korean government, starting in 2016.

It is the largest among the hospital construction projects initiated by the Korean government in foreign countries as well as the first project that a hospital and university serve as a consulting supervisor.

EMC will provide local education and training for the next three years. Starting from Oct. 15, 140 people -- 80 doctors, 30 nurses, 10 medical technicians and 20 managers -- from BSMMU affiliated hospital will consecutively visit EMC to receive their training.

Their training includes theory and practice of surgery and procedures, treatment systems and procedures, and hospital management and operations.

Also, EMC will dispatch 18 doctors, nurses, medical technicians, and managers to Bangladesh and work directly with the Bangladeshi medical workers to provide training, demonstrating treatment, procedures, and surgery inpatient diagnosis.

During their visit, the EMC staff will also provide pre-hospital operation and treatment-related systems, presentation and feedback on local patients' clinical results, consulting on diagnosis and procedures, and education and curriculum consultation for Bangladesh national medical students.

Considering the functions and roles of existing BSMMU affiliated hospitals, EMC proposed five center-based hospital systems, including cardio-cerebrovascular center, digestive center, kidney center, maternal and child health center, and emergency center based on EMC's experience.

The hospital will be completed by 2021, with 700 hospital beds.

"We are glad that Eulji University and EMC have taken the lead in contributing to the healthcare of the developing world," Eulji Foundation President Park Jun-young said. "We will do our best to provide them with Korea's advanced medical care."
