Novo Nordisk Pharma employees in Korea hold an in-house support event for Team Novo Nordisk to participate in Tour de Korea 2017.

Novo Nordisk Pharma Korea said Wednesday that Team Novo Nordisk, the world's first professional cycling team composed of diabetic patients, is participating in the Tour de Korea 2017, an international road cycling tournament which starts Wednesday and continues through Sunday.

The players of Team Novo Nordisk have left for Yeosu to compete in the five-day event competition and will head for the 700-km trail through four major cities back to Seoul.

The pharmaceutical company held “Tour de Novo,” an in-house event to cheer the players and encourage them to overcome difficulties and be able to run high throughout the competition.

All cyclists participating in this race are patients with Type 1 diabetes who can control their blood glucose only with insulin.

"Team Novo Nordisk, who plays for five consecutive years at the Tour de Korea, is cheering for a good performance this year as well,” said Novo Nordisk Pharma Korea CEO Rana Azfar Zafar. "I hope that the players who challenge each year without giving up until the end will set good examples of providing great courage to diabetics and their families.”
