The Korean Medical Association said it would request 27 countries to allow the holders of Korean medical license to practice medicine.

The KMA said it would send a letter of request, signed by KMA President Choi Dae-zip, to members of the World Medical Association (WMA), a confederation of medical associations worldwide.

“Korea is well known for suppressing the Covid-19 pandemic well. The successful disease control and prevention were mostly thanks to Korean physicians’ efforts to prevent a further spread, proposals to install drive-through testing facilities, and a disease control measure conducive to the formation of the medical system,” the KMA letter said.

Such efforts led the nation to reduce the Covid-19 mortality rate significantly, the letter went on to say. Many countries openly support the Korean model of the disease control and want to introduce it, the letter added.

With such achievements, the KMA hopes that Korean doctors could actively practice medicine and share various medical information and experiences in a global setting. “Please seek aggressive cooperation with the regulative agency so that holders of the Korean medical license could practice medicine in your country,” the KMA said in the letter.

The association said it would send the letter to 27 countries – 17 in Europe, five in the American continent, two in Oceania, one in the Middle East, and two in Asia. The number of countries could increase in the future, it said.

The 27 countries are Greece, Norway, Denmark, Germany, Russia, Serbia, Sweden, Switzerland, Spain, the U.K., Austria, Italia, Portugal, Poland, France, Finland, Hungary, the U.S., Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Japan, and Egypt.
