Pharmaceutical companies are eyeing on consumers exercising at home amid Covid-19, promoting related products and events.

CKD Healthcare, a subsidiary of Chong Kun Dang Holdings, said it would offer a special prize for women aged between 30 and 50 who purchase a weight loss supplement, All-cut Diet, until Aug. 21.

More specifically, the purchase of an All-cut Diet for over three months comes with a free dietary fiber stick. The buyers will also have a chance to win one of the prizes, including an indoor spin bike, a step machine, and a coupon for Starbucks coffee.

Yuyu Nature, an affiliated firm of Yuyu Pharma, will also hold an event to promote weight loss tablet Fomoline L112 in August. The company benefits those who receive the product information through social media such as Kakao Talk and Instagram.

Yuyu Pharma said Fomoline L112, a health functional food, helps reduce fat absorption and cholesterol in the blood by binding dietary fats and releasing them out of the body.

Kyungnam Pharm rolled out two new weight loss supplements, Calo-V and Calo-Clean, on July 22.

Calo-V contains magnesium and vitamins, extracts from Garcinia Cambogia, helps reduce body fat, get a V-line face shape, and recharge energy, the company said.

Usually, sales of weight loss supplements peak in the April-June period, before summer vacation, but Covid-19 changed the timing this year, an official at a drug company said. He expected that many pharmaceutical firms would promote related products even in August.

The local health functional food market grew 3.5 percent on-year to an estimated 4.6 trillion won ($3.8 billion) in 2019, industry data showed.
